Player Insights Lead
About the Role
We are looking for a detail oriented and curious Playtester who is passionate about creating exceptional player experiences. This role is focused on evaluating gameplay, identifying issues, validating design decisions, and providing clear, actionable feedback that helps improve game quality.
Successful candidates are naturally analytical, enjoy breaking down systems, and are motivated by finding opportunities to make products better. You should be comfortable approaching games with rigor, documenting observations, and communicating insights that help development teams make informed decisions. We welcome candidates from a variety of testing, QA, research, product, and gameplay backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Play and evaluate games throughout development.
- Own process, recruiting, test design, reporting and the playtest calendar.
- Create relationships with broad audiences across schools, afterschool programs, libraries etc.
- Identify gameplay issues, usability concerns, bugs, balance problems, and areas of player friction.
- Execute structured test plans and exploratory testing sessions.
- Provide clear, concise, and actionable written feedback.
- Document findings and communicate issues with appropriate detail and reproduction steps.
- Assess player onboarding, engagement, progression, and overall experience.
- Verify fixes and perform regression testing on new builds.
- Collaborate with designers, producers, artists, engineers, and product teams to improve game quality.
- Advocate for the player experience while maintaining objectivity and consistency in testing.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and quality standards.
- Retaining information analytical learning and key takeaways for leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to think critically and evaluate products from a player perspective.
- Demonstrated ability to follow processes while also conducting independent exploratory testing.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to document findings clearly.
- Familiarity with mobile games and gaming platforms.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback backed by observations and evidence.
Preferred
- Experience in game testing, quality assurance, user research, playtesting, or product evaluation.
- Experience working on mobile games.
- Experience with bug tracking and project management tools such as Jira, Linear, or Asana.
- Experience with children's games, educational products, family entertainment, or learning experiences.
- Background in education, child development, psychology, or related disciplines.
- Understanding of player behavior, engagement, and usability principles.
